Registering for Electives...

If you apply to an away site using VSLO, you still must submit an Elective Approval form at least 30 days prior to starting your rotation in order to register for the elective. You cannot attend electives for which you are not registered in CBase
I. Off Campus Electives:
Use the Elective Approval Form below for electives at any sites listed on the Affiliate Agreement List or at any other LCME accredited site
Elective Approval for Away Electives in the US. Submitting this form is mandatory for all students applying for Off Campus away electives
II. Research Electives
Stony Brook students can take a 4 week research elective at an away site if the elective is approved in advance.

III. Electives at Stony Brook University Hospital
  • Most Stony Brook electives are set up by using CBase Registration drop/adds.
  • Late Electives (requested less than 14 days before the start date) are submitted to the Department elective designee for approval. The designee signs the drop-add form if the request is approved.
  • Once approved, department designee emails/faxes signed form to the Office of Student Affairs.
  • Until the course appears in CBase, the student cannot begin the rotation.

Complete page 2 of the Away Elective Approval packet (do not contact the site first). Once we have the form, we will send it to the site with our approval. The site will then let us know if they can accept you for the rotation.
